Powell names new mayor, vice mayor

Members of Powell City Council selected Frank Bertone to serve as the City’s new mayor and Daniel Swartwout as the vice mayor, both serving two-year terms.

Finance Department awarded Certificate of Achievement

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Powell by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). 

Sallows promoted to serve as Deputy Chief of Police

Sgt. Ron Sallows was recently promoted to serve as the Powell Police Department’s new Deputy Chief of Police. He will be sworn in to his new position at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street. Light refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

Recycle Right – Holiday String Lights

The Keep Delaware Beautiful program through the Delaware General Health District has partnered with area agencies to help recycle holiday string lights this year. The program runs until Thursday, Jan. 2. 

New Rumpke Rates for 2020

Rumpke was selected as the City’s service provider for trash, recycling and yard waste again this year. The new service rate is $19.24/month (effective Jan. 1, 2020). Customers will receive a quarterly bill from Rumpke.

Delaware Library Seeks Community Input for New Building

The Delaware County District Library (DCDL) will begin community conversations the first week of December to guide the construction of the new library branch, which will be located in Powell-Liberty Township on the corner of Steitz and Home roads.
