Veterans Day Ceremony planned for Nov. 11

The city of Powell is hosting the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 at the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial in Village Green Park, 47 Hall Street.

The program will include remarks from Lt. Colonel Michael Kelvington, recognize recent brick placements at the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial and feature vocal and instrumental performances.

In the event of inclement weather, the program will be moved inside the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

Greater Powell Veterans Memorial

The Greater Powell Veterans Memorial is a place for reflection and remembrance of those who served the country. Veterans can be remembered and honored through the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial Brick Program. Veteran bricks feature the honoree’s name, branch of service, the name of the war in which he or she fought, specific achievement or years of service.

About Speaker Lt Col. Michael Kelvington

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Kelvington was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from West Point in May 2005. He has deployed 14 times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.  Following these assignments, LTC Kelvington and his family moved to Columbus, Ohio where he now serves as the Professor of Military Science and Leadership at The Ohio State University.

Among numerous awards and decorations, he also has a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

LTC Kelvington is married to Mrs. Meg Kelvington, a 2006 West Point graduate. They have 4 children, daughters, McKinley (9), Madison (8), and Moriah (3), and son, Mac (5).
