Ron Sallows named Chief of Police

Interim Chief of Police Ron Sallows has been selected to serve as Chief of Police. He will be sworn in as the Chief of Police at the Jan. 16 City Council meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

Chief Sallows has 29 years of law enforcement experience and has been a member of the Powell Police Department since 1999. He started his career in law enforcement as a police officer at the Medical College of Ohio Police Department in Toledo. In 1999, the Powell Police Department hired Sallows as a patrol officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2005, and Deputy Chief in 2020. Most recently, he has served in the capacity of Interim Chief in 2023.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix. Chief Sallows is a graduate of the 253rd Session of the FBI National Academy, Police Executive Leadership College Class 56 and the Supervisor Training and Education Program Class II.

Throughout his career, Chief Sallows has been instrumental in fostering positive community relations by initiating outreach programs and creating open dialogue between law enforcement and community groups. He has a strong track record of implementing community-oriented policing strategies that prioritize transparency, trust, and proactive problem-solving.
