Powell to participate in Delaware County emergency training exercise

The City of Powell is pleased to participate with the Delaware County Local Emergency Planning Committee for their annual hazmat training exercise Thurs., Nov. 2.

In the event of a disaster, the Delaware County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management coordinates the county’s resources and agencies to reduce the impact it has on the county. This exercise will be meant to test the capabilities of our local first responders, as well as, help the City of Powell further develop our continuity plan.

The exercise will simulate a field response to a railroad incident scenario near Powell. The success of the training exercise is possible due to support and cooperation from numerous partner agencies and organizations. All city departments will participate in the practiced response to a large-scale situation.

Much of the training will focus on resident safety, emergency response, and public information. Emergency management trainings and exercises provide training to partner agencies, first responders, and emergency responders to better anticipate the complexities of large-scale events.
