Powell Police Perspective – Car Seat Safety

With school back in session, parents are transporting their young children to and from school. And as any parent would tell you, there is nothing more paramount than making sure their young children arrive safely no matter where they’re going.

Unfortunately, traffic crashes do occur.  This is why it is important to ensure that your child’s restraint system is properly installed.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) conducted a traffic study from crashes involving children. Of the 3,500 child restraint systems analyzed in their study, they discovered that approximately 72 percent were not installed correctly. This was credited to many reasons, including too many harnesses, confusing design, too cumbersome and too time consuming to install.

The Powell Police Department and Liberty Township Fire Department want to ensure that your child’s seat is installed correctly. Call 614.885.3374 to request an officer or firefighter check the car seat. Visit here for more information on car seat safety from the Delaware General Health District.
