Sallows named Interim Chief of Police

Deputy Chief Ron Sallows has been named Interim Chief of Police, following the departure of Stephen Hyrtzik, former chief.

Sallows has been a member of the Powell Police Department since 1999. He started his career in law enforcement as a police officer at the Medical College of Ohio Police Department in Toledo. In 1999, the Powell Police Department hired Sallows as a patrol officer. He was promoted to sergeant in 2005, and deputy chief in 2019.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix. Sallows is a graduate of the 253rd Session of the FBI National Academy, Police Executive Leadership College Class 56 and the Supervisor Training and Education Program Class II.

Ofc. Wilt promoted to Detective

Officer Audrey Wilt has been selected to fill a vacancy in the Detective Bureau of the Powell Police Department.

Detective Wilt began her career in law enforcement as a 911 Operator and Dispatcher in 2005 with the Mansfield Police Department. In 2007, she completed the Ohio State Highway Patrol Basic Police Academy and began working as a patrol officer in Mansfield. She was hired by the City of Powell in 2009.

“Detective Wilt has been a dedicated member of the police department for many years,” said Interim Chief Ron Sallows. “Her excellent communication skills and extensive network of law enforcement and community resources will help her hit the ground running in this new position.”

In 2020, Wilt was assigned to the newly created position of Community Oriented Policing Officer and she worked tirelessly to increase public confidence and trust in law enforcement.

Detective Wilt earned a Master’s in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s in Addictions Studies from the University of Cincinnati. She has served as a crisis negotiator for the Delaware County Crisis Negotiator Unit since 2019, and is an Evidence Technician and an Ohio Crime Prevention Specialist.
