Lorenz, Bennehoof named new Mayor, Vice Mayor of Powell

 

(POWELL, Ohio)—Jan. 6, 2016–Members of Powell City Council selected Brian Lorenz to serve as the new mayor of Powell City Council and Jon Bennehoof as the vice mayor, both serving two-year terms.

MayorViceMayorMayor Lorenz has served on Powell City Council since 2010 and has been the Chair of Council’s Development and Operations Committees. He has also served as a member of Powell’s Planning and Zoning Commission. Mayor Lorenz is the Director of Planning and Permitting for WD Partners in Dublin. He is also a fitness advocate and owner of a crossfit gym in Powell. He and his wife, Sue, have four children and live in Golf Village.

Vice Mayor Bennehoof has served on Powell City Council since 2012.  He founded and is the current co-chair for ONE Community, an intergovernmental committee improving the working relationship between Liberty Township and the City of Powell. Vice Mayor Bennehoof is also a member of the City’s Development Committee.  A business transformation executive, Vice Mayor Bennehoof has worked with companies such as IBM and Cardinal Health.  He also served as the Deputy Chief Information Officer for the State of Ohio.  Jon has been a resident of Powell since 2003 and lives in Golf Village, with his wife of 31 years and has two daughters and three granddaughters.

The Mayor is the presiding officer of the City Council and is recognized as the head of the city government for all ceremonial purposes. The vice mayor of Council presides over Council meetings in the absence of the Mayor.

 

Three new council members sworn in during first meeting of year

Three members of Powell City Council took their oath of office during the first meeting of the year. Jon Bennehoof, Brendan Newcomb and Daniel Swartwout were elected to City Council during the November, 2015 election.

NewCCMembersBrendan Newcomb is an attorney with more than 25 years of experience, primarily with legal services, representing low-income families and individuals in civil matters. He is now a community volunteer, working with Catholic Social Services in their Friendly Visiting Program seeking to expand the network of individuals visiting isolated seniors in central Ohio. Brendan and his family have lived in Powell since 2011, where his son attends Olentangy Local Schools.

A lifelong Central Ohio resident, Daniel Swartwout has lived in Golf Village since 2004.  Dan earned two degrees from The Ohio State University.  In 1996, Dan received his Bachelor of Arts Magna Cum Laude.  Then, in 2000, Dan earned his Juris Doctor Summa Cum Laude from the Moritz College of Law. In 2013, Dan opened The Law Office of Daniel Swartwout, LLC.  He also performs as a standup comedy and master of ceremonies for numerous events. Dan is married to his wife, Tasha, and has one daughter.
