Update on City’s Salt Shortage

(POWELL, Ohio)—March 5, 2015—Because of severe winter weather conditions last year and the amount of snowfall to date this season, the City of Powell and many other jurisdictions are facing a salt shortage.

As a result of the shortage, many residents may notice a difference in salt service in their neighborhood. The City has 140 tons of salt and will only focus on treating primary roadways for the remainder of the winter.

Primary streets include Powell Road, Olentangy Street, Liberty Street, Sawmill Road and parkways. City crews will still clear snow on secondary and tertiary routes; however, these roadways will not receive salt. Powell and other jurisdictions were unable to obtain salt during the last statewide bid in August because of the shortage and has been borrowing limited amounts from Delaware County.
