The City of Powell is improving pedestrian safety and accessibility on Olentangy Street in 2025.
The two existing pedestrian crossings at the intersections of Olentangy and Depot streets and Olentangy and Hall streets will be upgraded and a new pedestrian crossing will be added at Olentangy Street and Traditions Way.
As part of this project, all three crosswalks will receive pedestal-mounted rectangular rapid flashing beacon signals, which will provide a safer way for residents to reach housing, restaurants, and businesses downtown. The user-initiated devices help pedestrians cross the street and improve visibility for drivers.
Upgraded pavement markings and modifications to the existing curb, sidewalk, and storm sewer infrastructure will also be added to the three crossings.
An abbreviated safety funding grant was awarded by the State of Ohio Highway Safety Improvement Program that funded 90 percent of the design and construction costs for the crossings.
The Olentangy Street crosswalk improvements are part of the 2025 City Council-approved Capital Improvement Program.
