Officer Jason Latiolais Retires After Nearly 25 Years of Service

Congratulations Officer Jason Latiolais on his retirement from Powell Police Department.

Ofc. Latiolais enrolled in the police academy in 1997 and began his law enforcement career as a reserve officer for the Worthington Police Department. In 2000, he was hired as a full-time officer by the Powell Police Department. After a short departure, Ofc. Latiolais returned to the Powell Police Department in 2001, where he has worked for the remainder of his career.

Ofc. Latiolais served as an officer-in-charge, field training officer, an evidence technician, bike officer, and a certified marijuana examiner, in addition to his patrol duties. In 2008, he received the Master Criminal Investigator certification from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.

Ofc. Latiolais served as a member of a multi-jurisdictional drug task force for Delaware County.  While at the drug task force, he and other members were presented with the 2006 Ohio Narcotics Association of Regional Coordinating Officers Unit of the Year Award. This award was presented to them for their uncovering of an extremely large criminal enterprise that spanned 4 states with numerous indictments and convictions.

In 2013, Ofc. Latiolais became the first canine handler for the City of Powell Police Department. He served as a canine handler with his partner, K9 Axel, for 9 years before his canine retired and was certified as a Canine Evaluator for the State of Ohio.

Over his career, he has been recognized with the following awards:

  • Officer of the Year in 2006
  • Two Life Saving Awards, one for extinguishing a vehicle fire and providing aid to an unconscious driver and another for performing lifesaving measures on an unresponsive individual.
  • Meritorious Service Award for his assistance in the identifying, charging, and conviction of several armed robbery suspects.
  • Multiple Letters of Recognition for his work at the Powell Police Department.
  • Worthington Police Department, Reserve Officer of the Year in 1999.

Thank you for your nearly 25 years of service to the Powell Community!
