Powell City Council has approved a public-private partnership with developer Crawford Hoying that will add more parking spaces to downtown.

The 110 S. Liberty Street parking lot is now available for public use until the site sells and plans for redevelopment are finalized.

This agreement adds 26 additional public parking spaces to the downtown parking network, making it easier for visitors to access local shops, restaurants, and parks.

“This is another progressive step forward in expanding our parking options in Downtown Powell,” said Powell City Manager Andy White. “We want people to get out of their cars and explore all that our downtown has to offer.”

The agreement, where the City pays the developer an annual maintenance reimbursement to use the property, is the first of its kind in Powell.

“By strengthening partnerships with property owners like Crawford Hoying, we’re able to transform underutilized spaces to support the City’s vision,” said White. “I’m grateful for City Council’s support of this opportunity and commitment to economic development initiatives that will help Downtown Powell reach its full potential.”

The City intends for this partnership to serve as a model for future collaborations with private property owners.

“We welcome other lot owners to reach out to discuss how they can work with us to make their parking lots public,” said Powell Economic Development Administrator Sean Hughes.
