Community Garden

Powell-Kiwanis Community Garden at Arbor Ridge Park

Residents of Powell who would like to grow fresh produce, establish a sense of community and meet other Powell neighbors are invited to rent a garden bed at the Powell Kiwanis Community Garden in Arbor Ridge Park.

A limited number of 4×8 raised garden beds will be available to rent April-October dependent upon frost dates. Only organic gardening practices will be permitted (organic fertilizer, herbicide or pesticide applications) and initially only one garden rental will be available per family.

Why a Community Garden?

A Community Garden provides a unique opportunity to grow your own produce, donate what you have grown if you wish, and develop a sense of community spirit. A Community Garden brings added beauty to an area, and is recognized by many police departments as an effective crime prevention strategy.

If you would like to register for a garden bed in Powell’s Community Garden, please visit the City’s Municipal Building at 47 Hall Street. The cost is $30 for residents and $60 for non-residents. Upon registration, you will receive a full program description including policies and procedures for the garden. Previous tenants have the first right of refusal for their previous plot through an early registration email.

2020 Registration Dates

Update on 2020 Registration:

Due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 virus, the opening of the community garden at Arbor Ridge Park is being postponed.  If or when it becomes safe to do so, we will be permitting gardening this year.

The City of Powell Parks & Recreation Department will continue to monitor all recommendations and orders from the governor, health director and CDC before re-opening any of the amenities in our parks.

If we are able to open the gardens this year, a pre-registration option will be given to those gardeners that maintained a bed last year.  Notification will be by email when a decision is made, as well as being posted on the city website, www.cityofpowell.us . Any garden plots not reserved by previous participants will then be available to others, with Powell residents receiving priority.

If you are interested in reserving a plot again this year, please keep an eye out for an email letting you know when it is time to register.  Please do not send registrations or payment at this time.  It will be returned.
