Proposed Keep Powell Moving Plan to go before City Council

(POWELL, Ohio)—Oct. 28, 2016—The proposed Keep Powell Moving Downtown Powell Street System & Circulation Plan is slated to go before Powell City Council during their Tuesday, Nov. 1 meeting. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

The proposed plan is an effort to improve traffic circulation, add parking and increase walkability and bicycling. Two Keep Powell Moving public workshops were held over the summer along with numerous stakeholder interviews, providing an opportunity for the community to submit feedback on the proposed recommendations.

“Our most recent Community Attitudes Survey shows that while six out of ten people believe Powell is an exceptional place to live, only one resident in three is satisfied with managing local traffic,” said City Manager Steve Lutz. “Traffic has dramatically increased over the years and we know the community is frustrated.”

The Keep Powell Moving initiative puts the Comprehensive Plan into action. Powell City Council approved the Comprehensive Plan in late 2015. Five out of ten guiding principles of the Comprehensive Plan focus on downtown, the Olentangy and Liberty Street intersection, and traffic concerns.

“We gathered feedback from our community to create this Plan that facilitates better traffic movement through and around the Four Corners, enhances access, parking and circulation to downtown businesses and events, and lastly, preserves and improves our downtown character and walkability,” said Lutz. “This plan is a guiding document for the future of downtown Powell.”
