Powell Police Perspective

January is Personal Self- Defense Awareness Month

While we know that not everyone is out to cause others harm, being prepared to protect yourself is important in today’s world. There are many different programs to help you learn to protect yourself and your children.

One program the Powell Police Department, along with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, is implementing this year is radKIDS for ages 8-12. Classes will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays beginning Jan. 29 through Feb. 21 at the Powell Police Department, 47 Hall Street. The first class is full; however, another class will be held later this year or early 2019.

radKIDS is a national program to empower children and help them learn to replace the fear and confusion felt in dangerous situations with confidence, personal safety skills, and self-esteem. radKIDS uses fun, activity-based programs including lectures, safety drills and muscle memory exercises to help kids learn. The program works to prepare children to defend themselves against bullying, child abuse and neglect, as well as sexual assault.
