Old Sawmill Road/Presidential Parkway Roundabout Update

Old Sawmill Road/Presidential Parkway Roundabout Update

In collaboration with the Delaware County Engineer’s Office, ODOT and Liberty Township, the intersection of Old Sawmill Road and Presidential Parkway will soon be converted into a single-lane roundabout. This decision was reached after noting the intersection was the site of a large number of traffic accidents with injuries. A safety study was performed to determine a recommended alternative. Four long-term alternatives were considered with a single-lane roundabout identified as the most economical solution offering the most safety benefit.

Slated to begin construction this summer, the roundabout is expected to reduce speed near the intersection in addition to reducing the number and severity of crashes. The project will also support the installation of an improved crosswalk with refuge islands for pedestrians, several hundred feet of new pathway along the Presidential Parkway right-of-way, resurfacing and restriping of Presidential Parkway between Sawmill Parkway and the proposed intersection improvements, and installation of lighting at the intersection.

Thanks to support from an ODOT Highway Safety Program grant and an Ohio Public Works Commission grant, the project will be a cost-effective collaboration. Of the $1.5 million construction estimate, the City of Powell’s cost share comes in at just under three percent ($44,900).

We look forward to this improvement contributing to a safer community for all who live and work in Powell and the surrounding areas.
