Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony 2022

(POWELL, Ohio)—May 25, 2022 The city of Powell is hosting the annual Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30 in downtown Powell.

Parade

This year’s parade will feature approximately 45 units and will begin on Grace Drive and follow west to North Liberty Street. Participants will then travel south on Liberty Street to Olentangy Street, where they will turn right and continue west. The parade ends at the railroad crossing on Olentangy Street.

Ceremony

A ceremony will be held immediately following the parade at the Amphitheater Stage in Village Green Park, located at 47 Hall Street. The program will include remarks from Mayor Dan Swartwout and keynote speaker United States Army MAJ Fannie L. Malone.

About the Keynote Speaker

MAJ Malone joined the US Army in 1996 on Active Duty and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Upon completion of basic training she attended Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Sam Houston, TX where she graduated 91B training preparing her to be a Combat Medic. In 1997 after graduating from 91B training she went to her first duty station at Fort Campbell, KY. Upon arriving at Fort Campbell MAJ Malone was assigned to the 513th Military Police (MP) Battalion where she served as a Medic in the Battalion Aide Station. In 2000 MAJ Malone left Fort Campbell and was assigned to Fort Gordon, GA. While at Fort Gordon MAJ Malone served as a Medic and Vascular Technician in the General Surgery Clinic and eventually became the NCOIC of the Urology and Plastic Surgery Clinics. In 2004 MAJ Malone submitted a Non-Scholarship Green to Gold Packet in which she was given the opportunity to leave Active Duty to complete her Bachelor’s degree and become an Officer. MAJ Malone received her commission from the Augusta State University ROTC program 07 March 2007. She was commissioned as Military Intelligence Officer in US Army Reserves and assigned as the Company Executive Officer of HHC, 345th Military Intelligence Theater Support Battalion. Immediately upon commissioning MAJ Malone received ADT orders to be a Gold Bar Recruiter with the Augusta State University ROTC for three months, duties which she performed while still being an active participant in 345th Military Intelligence TSB as HHC Executive Officer. In June 2007 MAJ Malone finished her recruiting duties and immediately received COADOS orders to work as the 345th Battalion assistant S-1 and orders mobilization officer. In October 2007 MAJ Malone was selected to be the interim HHC Company Commander until it was time for her to leave to go to the Basic Officers Leadership Course (BOLC) in February 2008. After attending BOLC and Military Intelligence Officers Basic Course MAJ Malone returned back to Fort Gordon and once again took the Executive Officer’s position with HHC, 345th MI TSB. In April 2009 MAJ Malone joined 457th Civil Affairs Battalion where she served as a Team Leader of a Civil Affairs team. In March 2010 MAJ Malone joined the 209th Army Liaison Team (ALT) where she served as the Assistant S-2 for the 209th ALT and its 8 down trace units. Her main focus was on Security Management and Intelligence Oversight. After returning to the United States in 2011 MAJ Malone joined the 2204th Mobilization Support Battalion (MSB) where she served as the S-3 located in Bossier City, LA. MAJ Malone then went on to serve as an Intelligence Officer in the 2600th Military Intelligence Group (MIG), Det 4, in Fort Worth, TX. In June 2015 MAJ Malone received her initial AGR assignment stationed with the 91st Training Division at Fort Hunter Liggett, CA where she served as a Deputy Plans Officer until being selected to be the Division Secretary of the General Staff. April 2019 completed her initial AGR tour and was reassigned to 470th Military Intelligence Brigade (Theater) at Fort Sam Houston, TX where she served as the Brigade Assistant S3 Current Operations Officer. In August 2020 MAJ Malone was selected to become the Executive Officer for 10th Battalion Army Reserve Careers Group in Whitehall, Ohio.

MAJ Malone’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (x2), Army Commendation Medal (x3), Army Achievement Medal (x5), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (x2), Non-Commissioned Officer Enlisted Schools Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Reserves Overseas Training Ribbon and the German Armed Forces Badge.

MAJ Malone is married to her husband of 26 years to WO4(retired) Christopher Malone who served 24 years in the U.S. Army and they have a 18 year old son Xander Malone who just graduated from Dublin Coffman High School.

Field of Flags

In addition to the Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, the Olentangy Rotary Club is hosting the annual Field of Flags display in Village Green Park throughout Memorial Day weekend. Nearly 100 flags will be placed in Village Green Park to honor fallen heroes.
