Law Enforcement Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

(POWELL, Ohio)—A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will begin their evaluation of the Powell Police Department on Monday, Oct. 24.

As part of the assessment, agency personnel and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 5 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 26 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

If for some reason a person cannot speak at the public information session but would still like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call (614) 396-3433 from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 26.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA Standards. A copy of the Standards is available by contacting Officer Scott Sanford at (614) 396-3347.

Members of the community that would like to offer written comments about the Powell Police Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155.

Verification by the team that the Powell Police Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence.

The Powell Police Department has been an accredited police agency since 2000. Accreditation is for three years, during which the agency must submit annual reports attesting continued compliance with the standards under which it was initially accredited.
