Community invited to pay tribute during Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

 

(POWELL, Ohio)—May 20, 2016—The City of Powell is hosting the annual Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30 in downtown Powell.

This year’s Parade will feature more than 70 units and will begin on Grace Drive and follow west to North Liberty Street. Participants will then travel south on Liberty Street to Olentangy Street, where they will turn right and continue west. The parade ends at the railroad crossing on Olentangy Street.

A ceremony will be held immediately following the parade at the Greater Powell Veterans Memorial in Village Green Park, located at 47 Hall Street. The program will include remarks from Mayor Brian Lorenz, a keynote speech delivered by Jerred Phillips and a flag retirement ceremony led by Boy Scout Troop 428.

Jerred Phillips is a member of Summit for Soldiers, an organization that focuses on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and suicide awareness. Phillips enlisted in the Army in June, 2000. He served two combat tours in Iraq, the first tour in 2003 and the other in 2004-2005.
