City seeking candidates for various boards and commissions

The City of Powell is seeking candidates for appointment to various boards and commissions, including the Board of Tax Appeals, Board of Zoning Appeals, Historic District Advisory Commission, Planning & Zoning Commission, Records Commission and Tax Incentive Review Council.

Board of Tax Appeals

The Board of Tax Appeals is a three-person committee with a term of two years, meeting on an as-needed basis. Qualified applications should be a resident of Powell and have knowledge of principles, practices and methods of governmental accounting, finance, budgeting and administration.

Board of Zoning Appeals

The Board of Zoning Appeals is composed of five members who hear requests for appeals of the Zoning Administrator and grant or deny zoning variances within the City of Powell.  Members serve a three-year term, meeting on an as-needed basis.

Qualified applicants should be a resident of the City of Powell. Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of government or city planning is preferred.

Historic District Advisory Commission

This committee reviews architectural and design changes to structures within the historic district of Powell to ensure compliance with design standards as established for the historic district. The Historic District Advisory Commission consists of a five-person committee with a term of three years, meeting on the first Thursday of each month on an as-needed basis. Qualified applications should be a resident of Powell.

Planning & Zoning Commission

The City is seeking a candidate for appointment to an unexpired term on the City’s Planning & Zoning Commission.  The Planning & Zoning Commission is composed of seven members and makes recommendations to Council on a variety of development-related issues, as well as amendments to the Zoning Code.  Members serve a 4-year term, meeting on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

Qualified applicants should be a resident of the City of Powell.  Knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of government or city planning is preferred.

Records Commission

This committee, established pursuant to the rules and regulations of the State of Ohio, is responsible for establishing records retention schedules and document disposal regulations. The Records Commission consists of a five-person committee and meets bi-annually. Qualified applicants should be a resident of Powell.

Tax Incentive Review Council

This committee, established under the provisions of the Ohio Revised Code, reviews all agreements, granting exemptions from property taxation and any performance and/or audit reports required pursuant to those agreements. The committee meets once a year. Qualified applicants should be a resident of Powell. Knowledge of principles, practices and methods of governmental accounting, finance, budgeting and administration is preferred.
