Council declares Oct. 3, 2017 ‘Jean Kirkham Day’ in the City

Powell City Council declared Oct. 3, 2017 ‘Jean Kirkham Day’ in the City. Jean was born on Feb. 12, 1923 and passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 22, 2017.

Jean lived her entire life in Powell serving the community. She had a passion for teaching piano and voice, instructing many children of Powell, for more than 70 years. She also directed choir at the Powell United Methodist Church for more than 20 years and served as the historian for the church.

Annexation moved to second reading

An ordinance accepting the annexation of approximately one acre from Liberty Township to the City was moved to a second reading. The site is home to the new Verizon Wireless store on Sawmill Parkway.

The second reading will be held during City Council’s next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

Beatz Dance Studio development plan moved to second reading

An ordinance approving a combined preliminary and final development plan by Beatz Studio was moved to a second reading. The plan calls for the construction of a dance studio on 1.18 acres at 80 Clairedan Drive.

The second reading will be held during City Council’s next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.
