Proposed code change to allow chickens referred back to Planning & Zoning

An ordinance amending the zoning code to allow property owners to raise up to nine backyard chickens was referred back to the Planning & Zoning Commission for further review and study.

According to the proposed code change, a one-time permit would be required and issued by the City of Powell prior to acquiring chickens and an inspection from the City’s Zoning Administrator would be required within 60 days of acquiring chickens. Under the proposed code change, property owners that wish to raise chickens would not be permitted to sell the eggs or own a rooster.

Storage facility approved by Council

The final development plan to construct an 88,320 square feet storage facility (pictured above) was approved 5-1 by Powell City Council.

The proposed facility will be located on approximately three acres at Village Park Drive north of Penny Lane in the Wolfe Commerce Park.

Pre-annexation agreement approved

An ordinance to enter into a proposed pre-annexation agreement for approximately 108 acres of land on Steitz Road was unanimously approved by City Council.

A preliminary sketch plan for the site was submitted by Pulte Homes and includes 183 single family homes.

Council approves 2017 Budget

City Council unanimously approved the proposed 2017 Budget.

New to the budget this year:

  • Clerk – New records retention software
  • Information Technology – New body cameras and replacement in-car camera systems for police and a new phone system for City offices
  • Parks & Recreation – Consulting for a forester/arborist
  • Public Service – Street light repairs
  • Finance – a new part-time Human Resource Specialist
  • Public Service – a new part-time Department Coordinator
  • Police – a new full-time police officer

Bid awarded for new downtown traffic signal

City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to award a bid to Miller Cable Company to install a new traffic signal at East Olentangy Street and Grace Drive. The signal is on schedule to be installed and in operation this summer.

Council awards bid for new multi-use paths

An ordinance awarding a bid to Strawser Paving Company for the construction of new multi-use paths was unanimously approved by City Council.

The community will find new stretches of bike path on the north side of Rutherford Road from Sawmill Parkway west to Tricia Price Drive and along the west side of North Liberty Street (north of Brookhill Drive to Seldom Seen Road). The new multi-use paths are scheduled to be constructed by mid-summer.

City Council will hold their final meeting of the year at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.
