Council adds new Planned Conservation District to zoning code

Powell City Council voted 6-1 to adopt an ordinance amending the City’s Zoning Code to allow for Planned Residential Conservation District.

The purpose of the Planned Residential Conservation District (PRC) is to offer an alternative land use type to residential sprawl. Conservation Development is designed to work with the natural landscape, clustering homes together into neighborhoods and preserving large amounts of open space. At least half of the overall development should be preserved to create an interconnected greenway system.

This recommendation to add Planned Residential Conservation District to the Zoning Code was from the City’s Zoning Code Diagnostic Committee.

Proposed brewery and pub planned for Grace Drive

Council moved an ordinance approving a final development plan for DJCF Holdings LLC. to a second reading. The final development plan calls for a 3,000 square foot nano-brewery with a pub on an existing site located at 18-36 Grace Drive.

The second reading will be held during City Council’s next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

Proposed retail center for Murphy Parkway moved to second reading

An ordinance approving a combined preliminary and final development plan to construct a retail center was moved to a second reading. The proposed retail center is planned at the southeast corner of W. Olentangy Street and Murphy Parkway.

The second reading will be held during City Council’s next meeting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

Council rejects bids for the Park at Seldom Seen

Council unanimously voted to reject all bids for the Park at Seldom Seen. The bids came in higher than allocated funding for the project. The City will pursue a negotiated contract approach in order to meet deadlines and keep the project on budget.

Simpson appointed to Planning & Zoning Commission

City Council voted to appoint Shaun Simpson to the City’s Planning & Zoning Commission. Simpson is filling Richard Fusch’s open seat on the board.

The next Powell City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 5 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.
