Billing & Rates

The new service rate is $19.24/month (effective Jan. 1, 2020). Customers will receive a quarterly bill from Rumpke.

Residents ages 65+ who are head of the household will qualify for a senior discount (10 percent off total price of collections services). Proof of eligibility required.

Trash & Recycling Containers

Residents may furnish their own trash containers or rent a 95-gal. Rumpke trash cart for $3.69/mo. Residents may use the green 95-gal. recycling bin provided by Rumpke or purchase their own standard 2 wheel toter style cart with a catch bar.

Bulk Items

Bulk item pickup occurs on your regular service day and should be scheduled 24 hours in advance by contacting Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171. Examples: appliances, carpet, furniture, large toys.

Prohibited Items

Rumpke cannot collect car batteries, tires, liquids, combustible materials or any hazardous items. Contact Rumpke at 1-800-828-8171 about disposal instructions for sharps and needles.

Trash Pick Up in Powell

Refuse, recycling bins and yard waste are collected every Tuesday throughout the City of Powell, except for weeks with a Monday or Tuesday holiday. During a week in which a holiday falls on one of those two days, collection will be on Wednesday and resume its normal schedule the following week.

Refuse containers and recycling bins should be placed at the curb no later than 7 a.m. on pickup day. Rumpke crews are sent out on trash days between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to separately collect refuse, yard waste and recycling containers. Containers should be taken away from the curb and placed back at the home by the morning after pick-up day.

Refuse

Refuse may be placed in trash cans or plastic bags. Trash cans may be plastic or metal, have two handles and be no larger than 95-gallon capacity. There is no limit on the number of containers allowed per household.

Recyclables

Recyclables should be placed in the 95-gallon green containers provided by Rumpke or any standard 2 wheel toter style cart with a catch bar.

All recyclables may be co-mingled in your bin for collection. The following items are acceptable materials in the curbside recycling program:

  • Newspapers
  • Phone books
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs less than an 1" thick
  • Brown paper bags
  • Clamshells 
  • Corrugated cardboard (note that waxed corrugated cardboard is not recyclable)
  • Clear, brown and green glass bottles and jars
  • Paper milk/juice box containers
  • No. 1 and No. 2 plastic bottles that contained liquid (i.e. milk jugs)
  • Two-liter soda bottles
  • Detergent jugs
  • Tin/steel food cans
  • Aluminum and bi-metal beverage cans
  • Aluminum foil pans that have been rinsed before disposal

Yard Waste

Yard Waste should be placed in a biodegradable "yard waste" bag or a trash can (not exceeding 50 pounds in weight) with a "Yard Waste Only" sticker on it. Branches must be bundled with twine or string and not exceed five feet in length or two feet in diameter. Any yard waste not prepared in an acceptable manner will be left at the curbside.

Christmas Tree Disposal

Rumpke will be collecting Christmas Trees for disposal during regularly scheduled trash pick up for the City of Powell residents. Trees more than four feet in length must be cut in half and all pieces of the tree must then be tied together for collection. Trees should not be placed in plastic bags and should be free from all decorations. Residents should place the tree by the curb with regular trash for collection.

Appliance, Computer Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste

The Delaware General Health District serves the citizens of the City of Powell and Delaware County. Keep Delaware County Beautiful is a department within the Health District that assists with developing public education and community improvement programs. They schedule several Drop Off opportunities each year for Delaware County residents.

Used Oil

Motor Oil or Automotive Batteries can be taken to Pendleton's Automotive at 127 South Liberty Street, 614.888.2015. Pendleton's also accepts automotive batteries, car parts and metal scrap. More details are available on their Web site.
