Powell to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for COhatch Project

The community is invited to attend a groundbreaking event at the soon-to-be construction zone of COhatch. The ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at 50 E. Olentangy Street.

In June 2024, Powell City Council unanimously approved COhatch, a 13,900-square-foot building on the 0.64-acre site at 50 E. Olentangy Street between North Liberty Street and Grace Drive. COhatch, which is owned by developer Matt Davis, will offer shared and private workspaces, an event space, and a rooftop bar overlooking the downtown area.

Powell City Manager Andrew White said he is excited for the transformative project.

“COhatch is the perfect addition to downtown Powell’s northeast quadrant,” said White. “Not only will it bring enhanced work and gathering spaces for local businesses and residents to the downtown area, but this project will help the city launch into other downtown redevelopment initiatives.”

COhatch will bring:

  • Nearly 200 employees that will generate $1.5 million annually in payroll
  • Affordable workspaces for local businesses
  • Annual scholarships for non-profit organizations to use the new office spaces
  • Leverage for future infrastructure improvements.

The first of these improvements will be the Scioto Street extension from Liberty Street to Grace Drive and an adjoining large-scale public parking lot that will result from the COhatch and other Northeast Quadrant projects and partnerships with surrounding property owners and businesses. The parking lot will be behind buildings on Liberty St. and Olentangy St. and will be accessible by the Scioto Street extension and a new access drive along the COhatch property. On-street parking spaces are also proposed in front of the building as well as some neighboring buildings. The Scioto Street Extension also is important in providing an important bypass to remove cars from the “four corners” at high traffic times

“Projects such as this allow the city to use development to foster community growth by leveraging investments and programs to create opportunities for our residents and businesses,” said White. “This is the kind of transformative development we want in downtown Powell.”
