This summer, the City of Powell made lighting improvements in the Olentangy Ridge subdivision.

City crews replaced 66 streetlights, repainted light poles, and replaced over 1,500 feet of wire. Each light was replaced with high efficiency LED lights that provide focused illumination toward the road, reduce energy costs and have a much longer lifespan than traditional lights.

City of Powell Public Service Director Grant Crawford said the City started using the new style of lights in 2023 as part of its standard maintenance efforts.

"We focus on subdivisions where the lights have yellowed, aged, and are no longer performing according to Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) standards," said Crawford.

The City identifies more neighborhoods, corridors, and specific groupings of lights that need maintenance on a yearly basis.
