Proposed code change to allow chickens moves to second reading

An ordinance amending the zoning code to allow property owners to raise up to nine backyard chickens was moved to a second reading.

According to the proposed code change, a one-time permit would be required and issued by the City of Powell prior to acquiring chickens and an inspection from the City’s Zoning Administrator would be required within 60 days of acquiring chickens. Under the proposed code change, property owners that wish to raise chickens would not be permitted to sell the eggs or own a rooster.

The second reading of this ordinance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

Council gives green light to Keep Powell Moving Plan

The proposed Keep Powell Moving Downtown Powell Street System & Circulation Plan was approved 5-2 by Powell City Council.

The plan is an effort to improve traffic circulation, add parking and increase walkability and bicycling. The Keep Powell Moving initiative puts the recently adopted Comprehensive Plan into action. Powell City Council approved the Comprehensive Plan in late 2015 and five out of ten guiding principles of the Plan focus on downtown, the Olentangy and Liberty Street intersection and traffic concerns.

Decision on proposed storage facility moved to a second reading

An ordinance approving the final development plan to construct an 88,320 square feet, three-story storage facility was moved to a second reading.

The proposed facility would be located on approximately three acres at Village Park Drive north of Penny Lane.

The second reading of this ordinance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

Pre-annexation agreement moved to second reading

An ordinance to enter into a proposed pre-annexation agreement for approximately 108 acres of land on Steitz Road was moved to a second reading.

A preliminary sketch plan for the site was submitted by Pulte Homes and includes 183 single family homes.

The second reading of this ordinance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

2017 Budget presented to City Council

City Council moved an ordinance to accept the proposed 2017 Budget to a second reading scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 47 Hall Street.

New Budget Requests

  • Clerk – New records retention software
  • Communication – Consulting to assist with video production
  • Information Technology – New body cameras and in-car camera systems for police and a new phone system
  • Parks & Recreation – Consulting for a forester/arborist
  • Public Service – Street light repairs
  • Finance – a new part-time Human Resource Specialist
  • Public Service – a new part-time Department Coordinator
  • Police – a new full-time police officer
